November 2018 Editor's Note

Author: Maggie Washo

By the time you read this magazine, it will be November 1, and we can all breathe easier knowing we’ve made it through another hurricane season unscathed. After the “will we or won’t we” evacuation exercise of Florence and the possible tropical storm impact from Michael, it’s been another exciting weather season in the South.

Our team was in Charleston for a few days as part of our continuing Fashion/Travel piece, Explore S.C. Although the weather did not cooperate, we were charmed by the city nonetheless, and discovered there is plenty to do inside in the Holy City. Check out part one on page 46 of this issue and check back next month to see the rest of our trip.

Four months of preparation and hard work from the CH2 crew culminated in our Bachelorette of the Year party on October 19 at the Rooftop Bar at Poseidon. I would like to thank all of our sponsors (the SERG Group, Salon Karma, Stephens Pharmacy, Old Fort Pub, Jeff Hunt & Associates, Bauer Dental, South Island Square, and CQ’s) and especially the 34 young women who showed up that night in pajamas to support the Island Rec Center. Together they raised over $20,000, which will go towards the Island Rec Center’s Scholarship Fund. For a few photos from the event, see page 28. For even more photos, swing by our Facebook page. Next month’s issue will bring you the Top 10 and then you decide who ends up on our January cover by voting on our website from December 1-12. One vote per person.

I would like to send out a congratulatory note to Anna Pepper Hewett and Emily Burden who are celebrating 10 years of dressing local women at Gigi’s Boutique in Old Town Bluffton. They started the business in 2008, about the same time we started this magazine, and I have a lot of respect for anyone who made a new business successful in the worst economy to hit this country since the Great Depression. You are doing something right, ladies. Keep up the great work! (See their story on page 72.)

Sending out good vibes to our island for a wonderful fall season.

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone
