FACES DaySpa: It’s Time To #SpaLocal

Author: Kitty Bartell

Garnering accolades across their 34-year history, FACES DaySpa in Village at Wexford, has consistently been awarded Best Day Spa, Best Manicure and Pedicure, and Best Massage, time and again. And if these weren’t enough to draw your attention, their 2017 Island Packet Readers’ Choice Award as the island’s “Best Gift Shop” has made FACES a local, not-to-be-kept secret.

Owner Patricia Owen has taken her extensive beauty, spa, and retail experience and has grown her business with a decidedly local focus. “I am very big on supporting small business,” she said. With the undeniable impact of all things hash-tagging across multiple social media platforms, she is gathering a great deal of support around her #SpaLocal mission. Serving on the Small Business Counsel for the U.S. Chamber, she said, “Supporting small business is the backbone of our economy, not just one day a year, but every day of the year.

“We are very proud of our ‘Best Gift Shop’ award,” Owen said. “We have gifts that you won’t find most other places: gifts to help you relax at home, or create a spa at home, and now we’re getting into even more.” With 1,000 square feet of retail floor space, Owen seamlessly mingles her spa’s menu of splendid services, including anti-aging, body, face, and nail treatments (their pedicure of the month is always fabulous) with their selection of FACES DaySpa skincare, makeup, bath and body products, T-shirts, and robes (#SpaLocal, decidedly), along with discriminating gifts and gift certificates.

“We have just introduced a new all-local retail department,” Owen said. Just some of the new lines include: Pocket Full of Sunshine’s hand-crafted cards and gifts, made by adults with disabilities using recycled materials; Buona Terra Woodworks trays and accessories made from the remnants of 2016’s Hurricane Matthew, with a percentage of sales benefiting Deep Well; and Poet’s Blend honey and natural beeswax candles from the hives of Southern beekeeper Bob Zappa.

“If you, spa-local or shop-local, that money will be recirculated in your local economy. Think before you choose,” Owen said. Her long-standing commitment to all things local extends beyond her business endeavors. Along with 34 years of donations, sponsorships, and events benefitting dozens of local causes, the FACES team honored Earth Day 2017 in an impactful way. “It was April so we were still feeling the pain from Matthew,” she said. “For every retail item we sold for that week, we committed to planting a tree.” The arboretum in Port Royal Plantation was decimated by the hurricane, and with shovels in-hand, Owen and her crew planted 175 new trees that are now lovingly tended to by the community’s garden club.

The secret’s out… it’s time to #SpaLocal.
