Wine Time University at the Ocean Grille

Weary of wine lists that look like the sequel to War and Peace? Choosing a wine for dinner should not require an advanced degree, nor should it be a game of Russian roulette. Expert or novice, Ocean Grille is taking the guesswork out of making the selection. After all, drinking wine is supposed to be fun.

According to Chris Tassone, Executive Vice President and C.O.O. of the Lowrey Group and certified wine sommelier, providing the best possible wine experience for the customer starts with an educated staff. To that end, he is conducting the Wine Time University—a series of wine education classes for every Ocean Grille employee, from the wait staff to the management. “At the end, they should all be able to pass the national sommelier exam,” he said.

Whatever your wine preference, at Ocean Grille, you’ll find a selection to suit your palate and your pocket book. Tasso has put his extensive knowledge and experience to work, developing the Wine Spectator award-winning wine list. “It may not be the most extensive, but it is the most exciting wine list on the island,” he said.

Tasting is believing, and Ocean Grille is making it easy. On December 26, starting at 6 p.m., the restaurant will host a wine tasting event, “Old World vs. New World.” Admission is $20, including wine and hors d oeuvres. (Reservations required.)

If you can’t make it on the 26th, stop by any Monday evening from 5:30-6:15 and enjoy free samples of selected wines. Better yet, make a dinner reservation and enjoy the complete experience, with a relaxing atmosphere, spectacular view, abundant menu choices, impeccable service and the most exciting wine in town.

Tassone’s recommended pairings:
Torri Mor Chardonnay: An excellent choice with the steamed whole lobster or the broiled symphony of seafood.
Lincourt Syrah: Perfect with the Marsala braised lamb shank or BBQ salmon.
Trentino Pinot Grigio: Great with the crispy calamari.
